The captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma hit his 11th Test century during the INDIA vs ENGLAND 3rd Test match with England on the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Thursday.
In the process of batting after taking the toss India experienced three initial shocks, with Yashasvi Jaiswal Shubman Gill and Rajat Patidar all leaving in short time. Then, Rohit earned an early break on 27 when Joe Root dropped a regulation catch in the first slip.
Rohit and Jadeja added more strength to their partnership in the second half of the session when India added an additional 92 runs, without dropping a wicket. This was the first 100-run stand by India on the tour thus far.
Rohit finally scored his third Test century as captain with his 157 deliveries, which consisted of eleven fours and two sixes during the 3rd session.
He also scored 1,000 Test run against England in the knock-out phase at the end of 23 innings and scoring three hundred and four fifty.
Rohit has also surpassed his run as the top century-maker of all openers at the World Test Championship across three seasons since the start of the beginning of 2019. The 36-year-old has scored eight hundreds and a total of fifty in 50 innings of the event.
Rohit also surpassed MS Dhoni (78) to become the second highest six-hitter in India’s Test cricket, with his second highest score against Root. The only other player, Virender Sehwag (91) has had more sixes hit than Indians.
Rohit surpasses Sourav Ganguly (18,575) to become the fourth-highest scorer in India’s international cricket, just behind Sachin Tendulkar (24,208), Virat Kohli (26,733) and the current India director Rahul Dravid (24,208).

The ton was also Rohit’s 42nd tonne as an opener from the international circuit which is equal to Chris Gayle’s previous record. It is the only time that David Warner (49) and Sachin Tendulkar (45) have recorded more international ton openers.
At the age of 36 years 291 days Rohit was also one of the longest-serving Indian captain to achieve an international century, surpassing the record set by Vijay Hazare (at 36 years 278 days, v England on the same date in).
